Our first batch of coffee beans from Burundi
Produced by Izuba Washing Station | Roasted by Odd Kin Coffee
Payaya, apricot & jasmine
Izuba Burundi is our first foray into the Burundi coffee world.
It's a honey processed roast that'll transport you to the sun-soaked landscapes of Kayanza, the heart of Burundi coffee production.
A lovely balance of sweetness and acidity, we've roasted these beans to deliver a taste bud tingler delivering delicate jasmine floras, rounded off with soft apricot & papaya.

Izuba Washing Station
Izuba, meaning 'sun' in Kirundi (the official language of Burundi), is the name of the washing station where these beans have been grown and processed.
Located in the Runinya area of the Kayanza Province, a nearby river provides Izuba with a regular source of fresh water for coffee processing.
Ntama Appolinaire oversees the washing station, which employs two full-time staff and 250 seasonal workers.
Izuba's primary goal is to support the producers it works with. They provide premiums to both the farmers and station workers, who are paid 33% higher than the national average.
Burundi Coffee Processing
Izuba processes washed, honey and natural Burundi coffees.
To ensure consistently high grade and quality, all of the cherries processed at Izuba are floated in long channels prior to depulping.
By immersing the cherries in water, damaged and underripe cherries can be easily identified and removed.
These particular beans were honey processed, leaving the pulped beans covered in a sticky mucilage akin to honey.
They were then laid out to dry under the sun on raised African beds for roughly 30 days.
