Ethiopian coffees are prized for their delicate and complex flavours, some of our favourite coffees we’ve ever drunk have been from this wonderful coffee growing nation! When you’re lucky enough to sit down and enjoy a particularly special one, it isn’t something you forget in a hurry.

When you’re brewing this coffee you’ll notice beautiful tropical fruit aromas and when sipping on it, look out for hits of mango followed up by a lovely aftertaste that’s like taking a bite out of a freshly baked almond croissant.

This Ethiopian coffee has been processed at the Telila Washing station in Agaro town, which is owned by Mike Mamo of Addis Exporters. It is the culmination of the work of a group of female coffee producers who have their own smallholdings in the area, often the size of your average UK garden. Traditional farming techniques are used, and once the coffees are harvested they are then taken to Telila for processing.

Ensuring fair prices for female coffee farmers:

Mike’s company takes on all the post harvest processing and quality control at the washing station, which allows the women to concentrate on growing their coffees and ensures that they can achieve a fair price for their work. Water from the nearby river is used to soak the coffees for 24 hours, before being washed and dried on raised beds in the sun for 15 days.

As with all our coffees, we work with green importers who source directly from origin. Right Side Coffee in Barcelona head over to Ethiopia every year to visit the farmers and Mike to ensure that we’re building strong relationships with Ethiopian coffee producers that can grow and flourish year on year.
